Grades 1-8 Expectations

Grade One Music
C2.1 Express initial reactions and personal responses to musical performances in a variety of ways
C3.2 Identify a variety of musical pieces from different cultures through performing and/or listening to them


Grade Two Music
C2.1 Express personal responses to musical performances in a variety of ways
C2.2 Describe ways in which the elements of music are used for different purposes in the music they perform, listen to, and create
C3.2 Identify, through performing and/or listening, a variety of musical forms or pieces from different communities, times, and places

Grade Two Social Studies
-Demonstrate an understanding that the world is made up of countries, continents, and regions and that people's lifestyles may differ from country to country (Canada and World Connections)

Grade Three Music

-analyse, orally and in writing, the quality and impact of a variety of live and/or recorded performances, using appropriate music vocabulary -demonstrate an understanding of music history and its cultural context

Grade Ten Music
-demonstrate a detailed understanding of music history and its cultural context to interpret repertoire -evaluate the function of music in society
-demonstrate an understanding of the creative process by attending a live performance and responding to it orally or in writing, using terminology appropriate to the grade level
-analyse the relationship between music and its cultural context

Grade Eleven Music
-identify, analyse, and evaluate musical works through listening
-analyse musical works and performances of works, demonstrating an understanding of the process of critical analysis
-analyse the relationship between music and its cultural context

World Religions: Beliefs, Issues and Relig. Traditions, Grade 11
-analyse the influence of religion on artistic expression-identify ways in which religion is reflected in specific works of art, architecture, music, literature, dance, and in dress and cuisine, and interpret their religious significance

Media Arts Grade 11 Open
-evaluate a hybrid work, following standard procedures in critical analysis -analyse and compare ways in which works of media art influence various audiences and ways in which dynamic interaction with those audiences can affect the meaning of a work

Global and Regional Perspectives, Grade 11
-explain the relationship between artistic expression and its socio-political context
-explain some of the reasons for the emergence of various modern indigenous art forms

Grade Twelve Music
-analyse live and/or recorded performances of music, following standard procedures in critical analysis -describe, through research and listening, a distinctive aspect of a non-Western musical tradition

Exploring the Arts Grade 12 Open
-analyse and interpret their own and others' works of art or productions, demonstrating an understanding of the process of critical analysis
-analyse aesthetic features of a chosen work of art or a production

Media Arts Grade 12 Open
-analyse and evaluate the use of aesthetic and compositional components in media art works
